People who get the job using AI may not be able to handle the job once they get it. Best not to cheat.

What permanent daylight saving time would look like if you live in Portland. Some people remember that we tried permanent DST during the Nixon administration. It was awful during the winter, and Congress repealed it. Permanent ST would be better.

Scary. This drone is nearly invisible. If it's silent, you'd never know it was around. Here's the video.

This is why you can't trust apps that claim to be private. Some developers just don't know enough of the tech to claim privacy.

Naked mole-rat queens produce an odorous chemical that ensures that only they can reproduce. Don't laugh – these guys live a long time.

Why is healthcare so much slower than IT? This guy has it backwards. The pace of new developments in medicine is crazy fast. Not slow at all. Part of the reason doctors don't want to embrace new tech is that there's too much of it, and little promise that it's going to make their lives better to make it worth the cost. Workflow is so fine-tuned that any disruption is poorly-tolerated. And new tech has to prove itself, and that's hard to do. Lately though, as doctors have become employees, tech has been thrust upon them, and they must deal with it, like it or not.

Scientists discovered the brain doesn't make decisions the way we thought. I've been aware many times that I just "knew" what the right decision was before I was conscious of it. You know what will make you happy, and what choice you will not be happy with.

The AI Backlash Has Tech Executives Fearing for Their Lives. It appears that those who got rich very quickly are paying the price. They got wealth too fast while others got caught off guard and are now feeling resentment. It would have been a lot better if AI made everyone's life better, and the wealth was shared. But the benefits were just bestowed on a few.

The Moda Center-Blazers situation is deteriorating. Barring some miracle, it's looking likely that the Blazers will leave Portland. The city can't afford them. They can't even afford to provide basic city services. The loss of the Blazers will be a clearly visible sign of how far the city has sunk.
