Grail had a good day today. A far cry from February when their stock nosedived. I remember when they first came out years ago. Seemed amazing. Maybe it still is. But the question still is: what do you do if the test says you have cancer but there is no sign of it (yet)? That's the part that needs more work.

The Singularity may not be here for everyone, but it seems to be here for mathematicians. But although Mathematicians Feel Threatened by AI. They Can’t Quit It. It's really mathematicians who don't know enough about AI hate AI. If you know how to use it, that's what you do. And you better work faster so some bright high school kid doesn't scoop you.

Seems that Grok 4.7 should maybe have been called 5.0 rather than an incremental upgrade. As opposed to Apple's operating system upgrades, which are given a new major number when they're just minor upgrades from the previous version.
And here's Dave Pogue, bravely letting Siri get integrated into his life way more than I would. If I were going to grant an AI that much access, I'd want it to be my own local model, than a public one.

NASDAQ had a great day today as investors realize that AI is becoming too interconnected to fail. But frontier model providers had better reinforce their guardrails and not teach terrorist groups how to make bombs. This is the AI threat I worry about. And if they can't even stop that, then some groups need to start a major data poisoning campaign.

Chronic stress may trigger hidden inflammation that damages the heart. This is another fact that we already knew. Chronic stress can cause people to adopt unhealthy lifestyles, such as smoking, drinking, not exercising, eating poorly, etc. So chronic stress just may be an indirect biomarker. Paper here. Actually, the paper selected for people with elevated inflammatory markers, not people who were under chronic stress. The title is misleading.

AI bootcamps are the new University of Phoenixes. That's what Chinese comp sci grads are doing to get competitive, and so are American students. A lot of universities are offering them, which is great.

Oregon's workforce is really vulnerable to AI disruption. And preventing datacenters from being built isn't going to stop this. It would be better if our economy were more manufacturing-based. But it isn't. Oregon has a more service-based economy.

No. 19 states approved permanent daylight saving time. The last obstacle to locking their clocks could soon fall. This is crazy. We've already done this twice before, and it was unpopular and repealed. We need to have permanent standard time. Why do we need to revisit mistakes again?
