Wow, this is amazing. This is something that probably only math nerds would appreciate. Group Theory is the creation of the genius Evariste Galois, who tried to write down everything he knew about his new theory before participating in a duel over the honor of a prostitute he was defending. Sadly he lost, but his writings were preserved and led to what we know as group theory. It's everywhere, most easily seen in explaining Rubik's Cubes. Some of these groups were easy to envision, like cyclic groups, but some where not so obvious. A mathematician named Sophus Lie aimed to classify them all, and like stars in the sky, some of the groups fell outside the mainstream and were called sporadic groups. It was finally proven that all finite simple groups could be classified as such:
The proof was enormous and was issued in parts at a time between 1995 to 2004.Β  Well, it was finally entered into the LEAN prover and it was shown to be correct. Apparently errors were found that humans had missed, but these were corrected. This is a huge achievement in mathematics. πŸ‘

"Crackgate" Begins: Apple Aware Of Duo Screens Breaking As Complaints Mount. In the Steve Jobs era, we'd hear of people being let go or reassigned because of this. But this is not the Steve Jobs era. Apple doesn't expect to deliver now.Β

AI is Ruining Haunted Attractions. Haunted houses are full of AI-slop now. They think people won't care.

Anthropic illegally trained Claude with Stanford professors’ books. They just don't care anymore. They have an IPO, and newly-minted billonaires. So what if a professor's book is assimilated? I'm sure that he's not the only one.

Why using AI saves doctors time but won’t fix physician burnout. Of course not. You have some spare time, doctor? That means you can handle more patients now.
And yes, it's also about loss of control. But that's the price of being an employee instead of a practice owner. You do what you're told.

Why Is Everyone Watching TV With the Subtitles On?Β I thought it was just me. Sound quality seems to lousy in movies now, and the backgound music is often too loud and drowns out the dialog. Plus, actors don't enunciate as well. Maybe the old ronin's ears are not what they used to be, but it's nice seeing that others watch shows with subtitles on, too.

DOJ says 405 non-citizens cast over 1,500 ballots in WA, warns thousands more may be voting illegally. More signs of a Democrat-run state. Of course, Seattle Times won't report on this. They report on problems in other states, though. And they'll report that the Trump administration is suing the state of Washington. But you won't be told about the problems. Mail-in voting needs to go.
