How to Limit What Apple’s New Siri AI Can Access in iOS 27. There seems to be a lot of interest in limiting Siri. I still don't want Siri to access my stuff.

Anthropic quietly builds biolab run by Claude AI. As long as it's used for good.

Even the NYT knows that we will need AI in the future. Or SI.

Hard to believe this sci-fi short by Ted Chiang is from 2000. Very prescient.

Man discovers his parents’ coffee machine used 1TB of data in 10 days. What's the coffee machine doing? Mining crypto? Acting as a residential proxy?

Creating Fake People is a Terrible Idea. Modeling human metabolic systems can be used for good, but that's not what this article is talking about. Duplicating a person as an avatar is creepy and uncharted territory. As AI tech gets better, it's going to be worse, especially if the underlying model develops some semblance of consciousness and a sense of self-awareness.

Here's an AI application I can get behind. An amateur researcher discovered an unknown distant planet using Claude Code.  Downloaded a dataset and did some data analysis. Then verified his hypothesis prospectively on observational data. Kudos to this person.

NVIDIA Research Finds AI Agents Become Less Safe When Using Tools. Apparently all the safeguards you build in don't apply when agent use tools autonomously. The careful guardrails in prompts that were set up, get "diluted" by context the more the agent uses tools. Yeah, that's not good.

The scariest thing about gray-market peptides is how little we know. But people will use them anyway. As long as it's self-medication, I'm not too concerned.

The keys to the Internet change on October 11. Are you ready? Cloudflare is making changes to its DNSSEC protocol. It should be invisible. I have my DNS resolver set to 9.9.9.9 and it's compliant. 1.1.1.1 will definitely be compliant. Check yours.

Daylight Savings Bill dies. Although I hate changing clocks twice a year, I want permanent Standard Time. The U.S. has tried permanent DST twice and it didn't work and it was changed back. It's not even good for you. If it were permanent Standard Time, maybe Tom Cotton would have advanced it. Congress seems to always screws things up.

Don't you hate when companies shove chatbots into their websites, because it's de rigeur? This is what can happen when you do and aren't careful.  Because there are people who will always want to screw around and see what happens. You can't risk that.

Hardware is catching up. Local AI is real now. And this is with only 256GB of unified memory. Can't wait for what 512GB will do.

OpenAI just release 722 new math manuscripts of their discoveries. Here are preprints. Human mathematicians aren't going to keep up with this. No wonder the panic.

It doesn't take much to get you banned from Reddit. I got banned posting truths about the COVID-19 vaccine. Badge of honor.

This is why the Oregonian banned comments. Here's an article on their X feed: Several Portland restaurants and bars are closing, citing tariffs, rising costs, COVID-19 fallout, and retirement as key factors. No, it's not Trump's tariffs. You can't blame COVID anymore, geez. Retirement? C'mon. Yeah, it's rising costs, but be specific. It's all the taxes and having to pay so much minimum wage. Energy is expensive because of carbon policy and taxes, too. The comments reveal the truth the O can't hide.
